Leeds Integration Seals LoneStar's Position as a World Gasket Leader
LoneStar Group’s integration of two of its industry-leading companies in the UK has consolidated its position as a globalleader in the manufacture and supply of standard and high-performance fasteners, sealing and precision engineered components to the world’s energy and heavy-engineering markets.
Across the globe, LoneStar is continuing to review and improve its product and service portfolio as it strives to meet and exceed customers’ demands and expectations. As part of this programme and culture of continuous improvement, LoneStar Grange and LoneStar LWD have been integrated under one management team to form a new company, LoneStar Leeds. Sharing the functional resources and expertise of both companies, LoneStar Leeds maintains the unique characteristics of each brand, whilst creating added value for the Group’s global customer base.
LoneStar Leeds managing director, Craig Hebden, said: "Combining Grange and LWD creates a large, modern manufacturing company able to offer a wide range of products, but one which still holds true to its traditional values of high-quality,outstanding service.”
LoneStar Leeds is a leading provider of precision-engineered components, sealing technologies and specialised surface coatings to the world’s oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation and renewable-energy industries. Its extensive capacity and capabilities include 65,000sq ft distribution and manufacturing centre, 45 CNC machine tools, a £3million inventory, supply-chain management, in-house coating and plating. Craig Hebden added: "In addition to providing the highest level of product quality and service, we are also able to meet ‘Hot Shot’ requirements through having an extensive range of raw materials and significant in-house manufacturing capabilities.
"We have made a substantial investment in stock of both raw materials and finished parts and continued investment in the latest equipment ensures our manufacturing methods are highly efficient and competitive. Our skilled employees in manufacturing and support functions have many years of combined experience in their fields of expertise.”
LoneStar Grange, established in 1948, had established itself as a leading speciality gasket manufacturer, offering a range of sealing solutions from small soft-cut gaskets through to large, jacketed heat exchangers.
"The company is renowned for offering competitively-priced, high-quality products on time and defect free,” said Stewart Whiteman, global director of Sealing Technologies. "We have continued to expand and add new products to a manufacturing range that includes spiral-wound gaskets and camprofiles. "New investment in 2012 enabled us to expand into water-jet cutting, while the inhouse knife cutter enables us to offer a quick turnaround of cutting facilities to customers. We also hold an extensive stock of API ring-joint joints in a range of materials, including 316, soE iron, 825 and 625, as well as a full range of ASME spiral-wound gaskets. This ensures same day or next-day delivery, saving customers time and money on stocking expense.”
In addition, given Grange’s long history in precision CNC machining, LoneStar Leeds can manufacture just about any size required in whatever exotic materials a customer may need. Said Mr Whiteman: "Unlike many other gasket stockists, we have immediate access to over 20 inhouse CNC lathes, which means we are not reliant on others to manufacture specials on our behalf.”
LoneStar LWD, established in 1942, became a leading provider of precision engineered components and specialise surface coatings to the global oil and gas and petrochemical industries. In-house processes include surface coating and treatments, assembly, pressure testing and EDM wire and spark eroding. These complement its range of machining services, giving it a unique advantage in the supply of finished components to customers’ specifications. Operated by a team of skilled, experienced engineers, LoneStar LWD invested heavily in the very latest CNC technology to provide the highest levels of quality, precision and efficiency. Its fully-equipped facilities include wire and spark erosion machines, CNC machining centres and slant and flat-bed CNC lathes. Combined with conventional machining equipment, this generates a fast, reliable capacity, totally flexible and responsive to the needs of customers.
According to the Group’s chief executive officer, Trevor Swales, the combination of state-of-the-art equipment and technology with the supply of industry leading services from expert staff is what sets LoneStar apart from its competitors.
He said: "We are totally committed to providing world-class products and services, using cutting-edge processes and technology, combined with a localised presence in all major regions of the world. This ensures unrivalled availability of product and a level of personal service that enables us to anticipate and respond to clients’changing needs and expectations.”

As well as the Leeds and the West Midlands in the UK, these span Texas, South Carolina and Florida in the United States, Romania in Central Europe, Perth in Australia, Chennai in India, Ningbo in China, along with Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
